Valarie Hurwitz - Executive Director

Valarie Hurwitz, Executive Director for BTBJ, is responsible for coordinating synagogue-wide programming, the office and the day-to-day business operations of our synagogue.

Valarie has been involved with BTBJ for more than 40 years, starting as our first preschool teacher in 1976, followed by becoming a proud member. As the preschool and synagogue grew and flourished, so did Valarie’s responsibilities. She became Preschool Director and Synagogue Administrator in 1983 and went on to launch and manage our very popular Kindergarten and Camp programs. In 2007, as a result of growth, she assumed the position of full-time Executive Director. Valarie still maintains her passion for the preschool as a mentor, consultant and guest presenter. She designed our new Extended Care Hours Program.

Valarie received her BS in Education from Temple University and her MS in Elementary Education from The Pennsylvania State University. She has been married for 50 years and is a proud mother and grandmother. In Valarie’s spare time, she volunteers at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in the Trisomy 21 Center, which benefits children with Down Syndrome and Special Olympics of Delaware.
