BTBJ University

Welcome to BTBJ U 5779!

Now in its 20th year, BTBJ U has been the place to gather to study Parshat HaShavuah (The weekly Torah reading), Pirke Avot (Ethics of the Sages), Israel, Jewish current events and anything else that sparks our interest.  Our class has drawn a core of participants, many of whom have been with us since its inception.  We have also welcomed many new students over the years; each year brings its new faces and interests.  Therefore, whether you’ve been with us from the start or whether our next class will be your first, you are always warmly welcome to participate in BTBJ U!

This year, along with pursuing the aforementioned topics, we are adding the topic of Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism) to our menu.  Kabbalah has become a great subject of interest in recent years.  We will explore the origins of Jewish mysticism, its goals and its way of thinking.  There exists a kabbalistic commentary on the Torah which we will examine during the year.  I will announce the planned agenda of each class.  Be on notice, however… once we enter a topic… we have excitedly welcomed and embraced the fact that we never quite know where it will lead.  Over the many years we have enjoyed “taking the journey” throughout Jewish life and thought.  We are eager to begin BTBJ U in the fall and to continue our adventures throughout Jewish life and beyond!

Jewish Tradition teaches that study is paramount because it leads to the performance of mitzvot and is actually equal to living a meaningful Jewish life.  So… come explore the dynamic worlds of Judaism with us at BTBJ U!  Once you begin, you may find yourself furthering your Jewish identity for years to come!

Looking forward to seeing you in the fall at BTBJ U!  Rabbi Saul I. Grife
